She will do whatever she has to do for them and the people she loves. This book was freakishly awesome!!!!! Denounced, which follows Exalted, is so full of action and emotion, that it was hard to put down. I devoured this book in a day. The MC, Mena, has the weight of the world on her very capable shoulders. I found myself laughing and crying as she struggled with situations that were completely out of her control. She is a strong young woman, but the time she lives in is unfair and harsh.
I actually found myself fearing for her safety. At one point in the story, she learns a hard lesson about unfairness and it nearly destroys her. The ending was fabulous, yet I can hardly wait to read the third book. Hurry up, Tara Elizabeth.
I really, really need to know what happens. This story will pull you in and hold you hostage. It's very well written and reads like a movie in my head. I can't wait to see what happens next!! My favorite part so far- 'Unfortunately, you will not have the honor of being my United.
I am sorry to leave you with an inferior trainee.' Hahahaha, awesome:) Book two is first place for me! Mena made the hard choice and embraces all that comes with it. She was physically fierce in book one. She has to be emotional steel in book two-without the pump. Ryker, Ethan, Val, Lily, Kinah, Az.they are all here and then some as the plot continues. I love all of these characters and the new ones that join the story.
Brilliant extension to book one. The humor is great, the intrigue engaging, the plot moving, and the characters surprising. I can't wait for more!!!
First I want to thank Tara Elizabeth for the ARC copy of Denounced and the opportunity to read and review it. I have been anxiously waiting this sequel to Exalted and I must say right off the bat, I really enjoyed it! Once again, a spectacular book cover.truly one of my favorites in recent memory. Denounced takes off right at the crucial spot that Exalted leaves us, with Mena racing back towards the gates of The Republic of the Saved in an attempt to finish the Third Trial first. In fact, she does finish first, by default, as does Ethan. As Mena recovers from her injuries during the trial she discovers that she is back on the mind controlling drug, The Pump, and although it is clouding her feelings, she is fighting through it. She also finds herself the favorite of the diabolical Republic leader, Dr.
Fredericks, who gives Mena a special assignment with her new partner (surprise) to go out and destroy mauraders and their camps. As Mena's mind clears from The Pump, she discovers the stirrings of others who are secretly not taking The Pump and develops a plan to rebel against the Republic and free the Exalted and those enslaved by Dr. Tara Elizabeth had a real challenge on her hands writing characters who suddenly wake up from the effects of The Pump and discover feelings for the first time. When characterization is such a challenge for most writers, this could have been a difficult obstacle yet I found the characters to be well developed and believable. I especially appreciate the transformation of Mena from a cold soldier to an inspiring leader. Even though a real love triangle developed in Exalted, I was glad to find that Mena was true to the new feelings of being in love, with one guy!
What a concept! As far as villains go, Dr, Fredericks fits the bill with his morbid collection of kill trophies, a true psychopath. Oh, I cannot forget the precious Lilly, though I was a little disappointed that more drama didn't ensue with her hiding in Ryker's room. My other criticism is that the middle of the story was a little slow, but I do think the experiences that Mena and Ryker have on the outside open up some real possibilities for a future story, one I will line up to read. Denounced by Tara Elizabeth is a smash hit. I started reading it and couldn't put it down (the same was true for Exalted). In this book we see how Mena blossoms into a new lady as she once again starts to go off the pump.
We meet many of the same characters from Ethan to Ryker as well as Val. We also make some new friends like Jenna.
It amazes me how this story was able to keep my attention, as so few do these days. I fell in love all over again with our characters and find myself wondering about Lily. She and Mena became so close in the last book even if Mena was unaware of it at the time. I highly recommend this book to all of my friends. If you haven't read Exalted I recommend that you pick up both copies and read them.
I know that I loved them and cannot WAIT for the next one to be released. I received an ARC of this book (my first ever!), in exchange fir a review. I loved it!!! Tara Elizabeth had an uphill battle to add enough excitement and challenges to surpass 'Exalted', but I think with the startling discoveries Mena makes, both about herself and emotions as well as the strange Republic of the saved they live in, 'Denounced' does the job. The story drops you right where you left off in 'Exalted', in the middle of the third trial with Mena still on the Pump, but after she has chosen to go back to the Republic, instead of with Ryker and Lily. She fights her way to the end of the trial, surprisingly not finishing first.
This had me very surprised, but it worked itself out. Next, we go through the middle bits, although slightly slow, we uncover some dark secrets of both Ryker and the Republic. I'm not going to say anymore about the plot because I don't want to ruin anyone else's chance at figuring out the truth along with Mena.
Overall, this story was well written (only a few spelling mistakes), and I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series! The characters with the exception of Lily, all had a chance to grow and develop, particularly Mena, Val, and Ethan. I truly like where Tara Elizabeth is taking this series. So often we read about a character escaping one bad environment for another, never really resolving problems but just swapping them for others. In 'Denounced', Mena takes a stand and decides to fight to make things better, which a refreshing story to follow.
Great book and fantastic series!!!
